Is getting into IIT the end of the world?

This question can be best answered by an IITian, yet I a mere insignificant person take the audacity to answer this question.
My dear friends in IIT’s , former IITians and those aspiring to be one ,Pardon Me. This article of mine in no way wishes to offend you or your esteemed institution. This humble article of mine is just to provide some encouragement to the Non-IITians- The Not-So Great Beings.
Indian Institute of Technology-IIT, it is the dream of every (few exceptions are always there) science student who wish to pursue engineering. Indeed it is great, and one requires tremendous hardwork, dedication, patience, perseverance to get into the IIT’s. being in IIT is not a eating a piece of cake. Salute you IITians. Only few have this rare privilege.
Does this imply that once you get into IIT your entire future is safe and secured? Does it imply that your mere tag can get you all that you want?
IITians are hailed as Demi-Gods in our country. Whenever people hear that one is an IITian he or she is immediately given respect and his or her opinion counts.
Does being in IIT make you the most intelligent or the most knowledgeable? Do IITians needn’t worry anymore?
Sadly NO.
In fact in many cases IITians have greater worries and tremendous pressure to cope with. After years of hardwork (note that I used years instead of just two years cause people today are so obsessed about getting into IIT, that parents compel their children from a very young age maybe ten or lesser to start preparing for it), when one gets into their dream palace is it exactly as they expected? Does it meet all their required criteria and vision? Do the education provided their meet the world standard?
IIT’s are the best institution in India apart from IISC, TIFR, BITS Pilani and few notable others. Teaching is pretty good in IIT’s- they have some of the best professors and facilities. Campus facilities are good too- one gets to experience the best. Most colleges don’t have such facilities and even if they do they don’t have a great status. YES, you can call it living your dream.
The dream is but, not all good. With the brighter side comes the dark side too. If it were so good we wouldn’t read of suicide cases or those of depression. Being in IIT, being an IITian is never easy. Many students are unable to handle the tremendous pressure, the competition. It is very hard for the topper of a school, or district, or state, or coaching institution to be a mediocre student in IIT even after tremendous hardwork. Not all IITians land with a crore package or are assured of high paying jobs. In fact only the very best manage to get to the top with their own perseverance, hardwork and passion. Of course the IItian tag boosts your resume and you get to have some privileges but that’s not all. If you have passion and dedication IITian or not you can be at the top, you can be all that you desire. Being in IIT doesn’t assure you of the best job or highest package and in some cases even a job. Truth is you need to work for it and reap the fruits of your hardwork.
So dear friends if you are an IITian I respect you, All the best for your future, and if you are not an IITian there is nothing much to be disheartened about, perhaps you need just work a little more, face little more obstacles. Do remember success never comes easy you need to work for it always. The secret to the top is Hardwork and Perseverance.
